Agostino Lanfranchi was born in Palazzolo sull’Oglio on 24 June 1892. When his father died he was eleven years of age. A bright student at the Liceo Parini in Milan, he immediately revealed a considerable gift for sports, especially soccer, and played in the first division of the Brescia soccer team. In 1913, at the age of twenty, his interest in business prompted him to move to London, to develop the Lanfranchi sales on the British market and in the Commonwealth. Agostino was obliged to return home on the outbreak of the First World War; he enlisted along with his four older brothers and served as a motorcycle messenger, distinguishing himselfor his capacity and courage, and earning a war medal. When the war ended he returned to England where he remained until 1940, when the outbreak of a new world war forced him to return to Italy once and for all.
